In the course of  early development, cells acquire their specificity through the action the gene networks responsible for determination and differentiation. Gene expression at the level of mRNA and protein is responsible for proper formation of body structures in space and time. Disruptions in gene expression and regulation result in various dysfunctions of organism development. In order to get the detailed information on regulatory mechanisms underlying formation of biological structures in space and time, we use model systems: development of early embryo and complex eye of fruit fly Drosophila. For example, during eye development, a layer of epithelial cells is transformed into an ordered structure of photoreceptors during a short time interval. We  apply experiment, modelling and data analysis  do decipher regulatory mechanisms underlaying formation of these structures.
